Awwad Hall Restored for 7,000 Students

February 2026

Scholars Without Borders restored, maintained and furnished Sheikh Mohammad Awwad Hall at Al-Azhar University in North Gaza. The hall now serves 7,000 students each week. Work took two months and cost $300,000.

Crews repaired walls and ceilings, installed a new zinc roof and gutters, and fitted a gypsum suspended ceiling. New aluminum windows, a main iron door, electrical wiring, energy-efficient lighting and a solar power system followed. The hall received 1,000 chairs, curtains, 4 display screens and a sound system. Five restrooms were repaired with new water tanks, plumbing fixtures, doors and windows.

The hall now hosts university meetings, activities and events. Donor support made this work possible.
